So for this observation I observed two children in my class, and found that they have been predicting what the stories will be about, and their always making connections. They tell me what they think will happen when we are in large group and small literacy groups. I have asked the children questions that have them think of a time they did something or other such questions that allows them to connect to the story. There have also been times that the children listen to the story and they have an 'Ah-ha' moment and tell me about something that connects them to the story.
A few strategies that I think I would begin to use with these children would be questioning and summarizing. I think that these should come next and I will perhaps start implementing this into my large group read alounds and also my small literacy groups. I feel that the children are starting to use the questioning strategies because children in kindergarten are always asking questions and I think that they're at the point where they're learning to ask questions about the story to clarify confusions and make inferences. The next thing would be summarizing so they can have a better recall when their reading.
Until next time...

Keeping Up
It's been ages since I've posted on here..ok not ages...just a few weeks! It's been crazy..had a rough patch in my internship..and then took some time off to be with my husband who was home from Afghanistan. Now, I'm just trying to get my self on track. I'm trying to complete this weeks assignments and make up what I haven't completed. I'm struggling trying to make everything fit into my schedule - not enough time in a day, and not enough energy to get through all of it!
Any who...things have been getting better for the internship. I came back and got readjusted to everything. I'm caught up on everything for my CF. I've taken over the literacy portion of the lesson planning and prep'ing. I've also begun to plan for the math portion of our week. I will soon be learning to prep - which doesn't seem like will be too much or too hard to learn. I just need to find out where all the materials are in the room.
My teacher has let me borrow her Debbie Dillar book, so I'm collecting handy info from there and will be making copies from it this week - it has alot of labels and such things I want to use in my classroom.
I am just hoping to get my class work up to date and done well!
